Growing Up...
I was raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia and yes - this is
really a picture of me as a kid.  This was actually my
preschool picture when I was 3 years old - pretending to
be the Wicked Witch (I was a HUGE Snow White fan).  So
as you can see, my 'Go Get 'Em' attitude has been around
a while.

I grew up loving the ocean, sports, nature and just being
outside!

After high school, I attended ECU (that's East Carolina
University) in Greenville, North Carolina.

While in school, I majored in sports recreation.  I loved
everything about college - not to mention it's where I met
Chris!
About my life with Chris...
Chris grew up in Virginia Beach too but we never knew
each other.  We grew up just a few blocks from each other
and we had to go all the way to North Carolina to meet!
When we first met, we were buddies.  He had a girlfriend
and we were just good friends.  His girlfriend broke up with
him and broke his heart.  I was there to listen and slowly
things between us started to change.  When we decided to
date, that was it.  We just knew...

Chris is a school teacher and teaches 7th grade.  He loves
his kids and what he does and I couldn't think of a better
role model for young kids.

We live outside of Raleigh, NC (the capital of NC) in the
small town of Knightdale.  We really love it here.  There are
great people, lots of things to do and we're not that far from
our alma mater so we try to get back as often as we can -
especially for the football games (which has the best fans
in the world! GO PIRATES!)

We live with our 2 furry kids, PeeDee and Roger. (That's
Pee Dee in the picture.) They are a blast and just play
together all day long.  They're goofy, silly, big and think
they're a couple of lap dogs which we don't mind because
they're just so cute.  My mom has also been with us since
the accident and we have no idea what we'd do without her.
Her help has been just an incredible gift to us (thanks
Mom!).

Have our lives changed since the accident?  Of course!
And that's part of life - right?  Change.  We adapt or we
miss out on the best parts.

We never would have imagined this life, but life is full of
twists and turns and we just work every day to be better
equipped to handle the speed bumps in our path.
Rugby...
That's right - I said rugby!  I was born the World's Biggest Tomboy and these wheels weren't about to
stop this girl from keeping up with any man in my path!  After I got home from rehab, I started looking
for ways to get involved in sports while I was still in rehab and things were limited - especially for
women - and that didn't make me happy!  I found the
Raleigh Sidewinders Wheelchair Rugby Team
and went there just a week after I got out of rehab (still wearing my neck brace).  The Raleigh
Sidewinders is one of two teams in North Carolina and are included in the Atlantic North division of
the USQRA.  We practice lots and travel for tournaments all over the place.  I know I look kinda puny
next to these big guys but hey - somebody has to keep them all in line!
